👩🏽‍💻 A Day in My Life as a Social Media Manager for Nonprofits

Hi, I’m Abinwi, a social media manager for nonprofits and good causes. My workdays may follow a routine, but each day comes with its tasks and creative challenges. Here’s how my day went today:

📌 Main Task of the Day: Content Calendar Creation
Every day, I have a core task, and today’s was building a content calendar for a client. This isn’t just about scheduling posts—it’s about telling the nonprofit’s story in a way that connects with its audience and reflects its mission.

To do this, I:
✔️ Revisited the nonprofit’s mission and objectives to align the content with its goals.
✔️ Brainstormed and found inspiration for engaging content ideas that educate, inspire, and mobilize their community.
✔️ Ensured variety—a mix of storytelling, impact highlights, behind-the-scenes insights, and calls to action.
✔️ Mapped out the content strategically, balancing awareness, engagement, and advocacy.

I love listening to music while I work. With one of my favourite Cameroonian artists, Hen’s, playing in the background, I brainstormed on all of these. His music has a way of making me feel inspired, and when I’m in that flow, the ideas come naturally.

I jotted down different content themes—impact stories, behind-the-scenes moments, educational posts, and engagement-driven questions. The goal was to balance awareness, storytelling, and action so the audience sees not just what the nonprofit does, but why it matters.

After a productive session, I took a break for errands and lunch. Working from home gives me flexibility, but it also means my working hours aren’t permanently fixed. So after some rest, I jumped back in to catch up on outstanding tasks before logging off for the day.

After doing the content calendar, I felt accomplished.

💡 Social media for nonprofits isn’t just about posting— it is about planning and shaping the nonprofit’s digital voice, and ensuring every post has a purpose.

It’s about strategy, storytelling, and impact. A well-planned content calendar ensures that every post aligns with a greater purpose.
