Basic Definitions In Climate change

Curious about climate change and its meaning? Here are a few definitions that are very important to the understanding of climate change.

1. The weather


Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a particular time or instant based on temperature, rainfall/precipitation, humidity, wind direction/speed, cloud cover, etc. Weather is observed daily from weather stations and by satellites.

2. Climate

The climate is the average condition of temperature, precipitation, wind,  humidity and all other meteorological aspects over a period of time of at least 30 years. Aspects such as averages and fluctuations of these conditions over time are also important. 

3. Climate variations


It is the modification of the parameters of climate during a time period of more than 30 years.

4. Climate oscillations


It's the changes observed in the parameters of the climate during a period of which is lower than 30 years. 

5. Variability of climate


It refers to the seasonal and annual variations of the meteorological parameters in a region/country or between regions/countries.
